Low bid for town's western bypass construction comes in at $5.074 million

Town of Culpeper
“General Excavation, Inc. submitted a low bid of $5.074 million for construction of the town's long-imagined western bypass, a less-than-mile-long commuter route with traffic circles connecting the area near Wendy's on North Main Street to the residential corridor along Sperryville Pike at Virginia Avenue. The town project called Colonel Jameson Boulevard includes two dual-lane traffic circles: one at Old Rixeyville Road and one at Virginia Avenue in front of historic Fairview Cemetery.

General Excavation is also lead contractor on construction of a third traffic circle at the Wendy's intersection, a state project linking to the town bypass. VDOT recently awarded the separate $3.3 million project to the Fauquier County company, and construction is already underway. The state project includes a widening of route 229 in the area.”
